We are looking for two inspiring Researcher-Lecturers in Health Law and ethics to join our growing multidisciplinary department at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.

Job description
Health care and health care research is currently changing at a high pace and poses new challenges for health professionals. Constructive-critical reflection as well as good insight in the judicial and ethical implications are crucial to understand these changes and shape them in a judicial and ethically adequate way.

Health law is crucial to ensure patient confidence in health care. Knowledge and understanding of applicable national and European laws and regulations in the health domain are thus essential for aspiring health care professionals. This covers, among others, expertise in privacy, data-protection, research ethics regulations and the ethics of emerging technologies.

The successful candidates will each be involved in Health law teaching and work on one of the following two research projects:

The iRECs project is developing new research ethics training for review of emerging technologies, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, biobanks and gene editing. This research role requires background in research ethics and/or emerging technology ethics.

The DACIL project aims to examine the ethical, legal and governance structure of an interdisciplinary consortium developing an app for people with COPD. This role requires a health law background and expertise in privacy and data protection.

You will also be involved in Health Law lecturing in the curricula of Medicine, Health Sciences and European Public Health. One role will mainly concern teaching in Dutch, and the other in English.

As a Lecturer, you will take responsibility both for developing, coordinating and implementing contemporary education in health law aimed at non-lawyers. You will work closely with related disciplines, particularly health ethics, and various medical professional disciplines, as teaching is offered in an interdisciplinary manner. Your duties will include teaching at the Bachelor and Master level. Your exact teaching portfolio will be based on experience and expertise.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating courses and blocks; independently and as part of a team;
  • Revise and update existing teaching elements;
  • Developing and delivering lectures;
  • Supervise teaching groups and training in various curricula;
  • Develop and administer tests and examination items.

Requirements

  • You preferably have a PhD in health-law or a related discipline and have affinity with health ethics;
  • You get excited about interdisciplinary collaboration and health law research;
  • You are interested in developing new forms of education;
  • You possess good communication and organizational skills;
  • Ideally, you have some experience of qualitative methods;
  • You have a good command of the Dutch or English language, both verbally and in writing.

What we offer
As a Teacher/Researcher Health Law at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 or 11 according to UFO profile Teacher/Researcher, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3,226 and €5,929 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

At the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), everything revolves around healthy living.
